About Us

Set on Cholderton Estate which was formed in the 1880s when the Victorian entrepreneur and polymath Henry Charles Stephens purchased several farms and pockets of land on the Hampshire-Wiltshire boundary. In its “hayday” the Estate extended to 5,000 acres, but now is about 2,500 acres.

The Estate has remained in the family, ‘Inky’ Stephens, whose family name will always be linked with the famous ‘blue black’ ink. Today’s owner, Henry Edmunds FRES, Stephens’ great grandson, took over the Estate in 1975 on the death of his father. A passionate naturalist. His interest in biodiversity, ecology and habitats for plants and wildlife has guided the estate since.

The estate, which is fully organic, regularly hosts visits from wildlife and agricultural bodies, students and enthusiasts who are interested in seeing modern farming operating in tune with nature.
